Well, Adam, have a closer look! Can’t you see the trick? The final number you have is always a mutiple of nine, and in the chart those symbols next to numbers that are mutiples of nine are always same. Don’t be fooled by this kind of petty hoax.

Thanks Wei, I knew there was a trick to it, I was just too buffetted around by the winds of fate to be able to work it out- thus the beauty of blogging- put it to the board and let someone smarter than me work it out!

This reminded me of a great TV show called “Square 1″ that I used to watch as a kid. It was all about math, and it had great music videos about mathematical properties. Check out the video for the number 9:

argh! i like how your friend says ‘can’t you see the trick?’ no, i am too stoopid, but at least now i know why it works. i hate math and numbers and all that.
